Cambodia Tech Catalyst supported by Google APAC Launched in Koh Pich


(12 March 2024, Phnom Penh) – At the launch event of Cambodia Tech Catalyst supported by Google, over 250 stakeholders from the tech and digital ecosystem including local start-ups, incubators, venture capital firms, founders, investors gathered at the Koh Pich City Hall in Phnom Penh.

The US Embassy, the International Business Chamber of Cambodia (IBC), a Harvard Alumni Delegation, members of Foreign Press, entrepreneurs and local university students took part of the initiative.

Entitled “Kingdom of Possibilities, the evening cocktail co-organized by OCIC Group and supported by ISI Group, Canadia Bank, Heineken, Anant Law Firm, and Bill24 hosted panellists who shared insights into optimizing investments and scale-ups in Cambodia. Key players such Mr. Sam Kosal of (Baksey Media), Mr. Bora Kem (Mekong Strategic Capital), Ms. Molika Meas (iCare Benefits), Ms. Melanie Mossard (Impact Hub), and new movers and shakers including Mr. Tharum Bun (Kiripost), Ms. Lida Loem (SHE Investments), Ms. Kounila Keo (Mekhala Radiant Communications), Ms. Sophie Taing (EMIA), and Ms. Lisa Chao (Khmer Enterprise) had the opportunity to reflect on the challenges of their journey and their respective paths to success.

Dynamic speakers from Google Cloud Singapore, Ms. Esna Ong (Start-up Success Manager) and Ms. Kathleen Chiu (Customer Engineer) presented the pivotal role of Generative A.I. in driving digital and technological transformations, at the same time, highlighting the essential contributions of Google services in today’s tech landscape and what they can do for Cambodia.

Students of Camtech University and young start-up entrepreneurs had the chance to meet thoughts leaders such Chy Sila of Sabay, Max Thornton of Rising Giants or Remi Pell of Cambodia Association of Fintech and Technology.

“We believe that the private sector can play a growing key role in supporting innovation forward,” added Tea. “Which is why groups like OCIC are contributing, taking steps to putting more investments in developing the necessary infrastructure such as Connexion Community Hub at Koh Pich to support research innovation.”

Furthermore, Ms. Esna Ong delivered a special overview highlighting the optimistic outlook for the region and Cambodia in the Google e-conomy Southeast Asia report which indicated a boost in regional consumer confidence and suggests that the ASEAN region is well-placed to capitalize on continued growth opportunities.

“Cloud technology is essential for start-ups like ours in Cambodia, as it offers an easier way to enter the market without hefty investments needed. We’re glad to see Google Cloud coming to Cambodia to support local start-ups.” Said Pisoth Yi, a junior at CamTech University and Founder of Polymer Invoice, a local start-up offering easy-to-use invoice management solutions to Cambodian MSMEs

“We’re excited to explore how we can use Google Cloud’s tools, like Vertex AI, to help micro & small businesses in Cambodia through services such as Polymer.” Added Akthichetha Yim, Co-Founder of Polymer Invoice.

The Cambodia Tech Catalyst initiative continues this week with CTO Connects at Connexion, at Camtech in Chroy Changvar and in Canadian International School in Koh Pich.
