Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet Attends the Annual Summary Meeting of the Ministry of Labor

Yesterday, during the annual summary meeting of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized several key points:

Growth in Investment and Economic Development

Hun Manet elaborated on Cambodia’s achievements in attracting investment. He mentioned that from August 2023 to January 2024, Cambodia successfully secured 172 investment projects, with a total projected investment of nearly $4 billion. These projects are expected to create about 190,000 job opportunities.

Hun Manet expressed dissatisfaction with those criticizing the government’s policies on attracting investment. He pointed out that critics overlook the actual effectiveness of the government in attracting foreign investments. According to the report from the Council for the Development of Cambodia, these investment projects not only come from domestic companies but also include investments from 10 countries, reflecting the international community’s recognition of Cambodia’s economic potential.

Loyalty of the Hun Family

Hun Manet reiterated the loyalty of the Hun family to the country. He stated that family members, including Prince Hun Sen and himself, have never engaged in any actions that betray national interests and have always been dedicated to solving the problems facing the country.

This statement responds to some opposition groups that accuse the Prime Minister of “treason” for cooperating with Thailand on maritime boundary and offshore oil exploration studies. Hun Manet emphasized that these cooperative projects aim to ensure energy security and have long-term benefits for the country.

By highlighting the loyalty and contributions of the Hun family to the country, Hun Manet aims to strengthen public trust in the government while refuting baseless accusations from the opposition.

Border Sovereignty and National Interests

Hun Manet also discussed the issue of Cambodia’s border sovereignty with neighboring countries. He mentioned that to resolve border disputes with neighbors, the Cambodian government has adopted professional negotiation methods, conducting boundary negotiations through technical teams to ensure clear and stable borders.

He specifically mentioned the consensus with Thailand on the exploration and exploitation of oil and natural gas in overlapping maritime areas. He stressed that this cooperation is based on the national interests of both sides, aimed at ensuring long-term energy security, and is not treasonous, as some have suggested.

By emphasizing the importance of border negotiations and the cooperation consensus with Thailand, Hun Manet demonstrated the Cambodian government’s firm stance on maintaining national sovereignty and interests, as well as the government’s wisdom and strategy in managing international relations.
