In the first 7 months of this year, Cambodia’s agricultural export earnings exceeded US$2.6 billion

[INNEWS Comprehensive Report] On August 8, Im Rachna, Deputy Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, revealed that in the first seven months of this year, Cambodia exported more than 4.51 million tons of agricultural products to the international market, with an export value of more than 2.6 billion U.S. dollars. Compared with the same period last year, it decreased by 19.20%.

Im Rachna pointed out that in the first seven months of 2023, according to the statistics of the National Phytosanitary Database of the General Administration of Agriculture, the total export of agricultural products was 4,514,893.74 tons, with an amount of about 2.62959 billion US dollars, of which rice was 362,708,000 tons, with an amount of about 313.74 million US dollars. 510,850,000 tons of rice, valued at US$504.71 million, and 2,641,335.74 tons of non-rice agricultural products, valued at approximately US$1,811.13 million, and exported to 68 countries.

Im Rachna emphasized that despite a slight decline in agricultural exports to international markets, the value of Cambodian agricultural exports in the first half of 2023 will increase by 3.32%.

On the other hand, due to the increase in India’s recent announcement to shut down rice exports to maintain the country’s food security, and the fact that international rice prices have been soaring, Cambodia is studying strategies that can benefit economically by increasing the ability of local factories to store stocks, and It is processed and exported directly to the international market.
