[INNEWS Comprehensive Report] On August 21, Chea Se, State Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, said at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Cambodian Chinese Tour Guide Overseas Training Course held in Siem Reap Province that in the first six months of 2023, the number of international tourists received by Cambodia will reach 2.5 million passengers, an increase of 409% compared to the same period in 2022.

Chea Se thanked the Chinese government, the Chinese embassy in Cambodia, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Beijing International Chinese Language Institute for their support for the various projects, and praised the Ministry of Tourism’s efforts in developing the capacity of Chinese-speaking tourism practitioners in 2023. He added that the exchange of experience and cooperation in the field of culture and tourism in the past is an important part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Cambodia and China, which has enhanced cultural, economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.

Cambodia’s economy, society and tourism have developed steadily. Especially after the epidemic crisis, Cambodia’s tourism industry has recovered significantly. The main tourist destinations include Siem Reap Province, Phnom Penh, and Sihanoukville.

In order to promote tourism skills training and tourism human resources development to meet the demand for quantity and quality of the tourism market under the new situation, the Ministry of Tourism has clearly recognized the importance of using technology and information systems to promote tourism talent training and ability assessment through online systems, and established Established an online tourism vocational training management system. Chea Se pointed out that the Ministry will attach great importance to strengthening the capacity building of tourism practitioners, travel agency operators, tourism experts, and tour guides, especially to improve the quality and safety of tourists in new ways, and continue to promote and attract domestic and foreign tourism as the 2020 – The strategic direction of the second stage of the plan for the recovery and development of tourism during the epidemic period and beyond in 2025.
