On August 11, 2023 local time, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore met with visiting Foreign Minister Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
Wang Yi conveyed the cordial greetings from Chinese leaders, saying that President Xi Jinping and Mr. Prime Minister jointly announced in March this year to upgrade China-New Zealand relations to an all-round high-quality forward-looking partnership, opening up new prospects for high-level mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides. It is believed that China-New Zealand relations will continue to be at the forefront of China’s relations with neighboring countries under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. Singapore has adopted oriental values to advance its modernization process and has embarked on a unique path of successful development. China supports Singapore in upholding the will of the people and continuing to develop and prosper.
Lee Hsien Loong asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to Chinese leaders, saying that Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s legacy is to work with the older generation of Chinese leaders to lay a solid foundation for the development of New Zealand-China relations. We will always remember what he brought An important inspiration to inherit the friendship between New Zealand and China. The New Zealand side spoke highly of China’s determination and efforts to promote the modernization process, and will jointly promote the continuous advancement of New Zealand-China cooperation and open up a new future for bilateral relations. The world today is not peaceful, and major countries are expected to play a leading role in seeking mutual benefit and win-win results. New Zealand supports ASEAN and China to deepen cooperation and jointly maintain regional peace, stability and development.
Wang Yi emphasized that China has also found a development path that suits its national conditions. Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, as the crystallization of the combination of the two, will guide us to advance Chinese-style modernization and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. China’s development is the growth of peace forces and the enhancement of stability factors, which will bring lasting dividends and development opportunities to all countries in the world, especially neighboring countries.
Wang Yi said that out of the need to maintain unipolar hegemony, the United States does not want to see China and other emerging countries develop and revitalize. On the one hand, they connive and support the “Taiwan independence” forces relying on the United States to seek independence and violate China’s red line; on the other hand, they tear off the pretense of fair competition and coerce other countries to engage in unilateral protectionism against China. These perverse actions will only damage its own credibility and prove to the world that the United States has become the biggest unstable factor in the world today.
During the visit, Wang Yi also met with Singapore’s First Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Foreign Minister Vivian respectively.
